Great Deal Mar 15, 2010 This is an excellent thermometer. You can switch it on and off or it goes off after non-use. Measures temperature accurately and quickly.
Pretty uselesss Mar 11, 2010 I bought this thermometer for meat and for candy-making. When I used it for meat, by the time the thermometer said the meat was cooked it was seriously overcooked. No way it was getting an accurate reading. For making fudge it was so unstable and moved around so much (the holder is also useless) that I put myself in peril. I bought a professional candy thermometer instead and have given up on meat thermometers because I have used several and they never seem to be accurate. I was happy to throw this one away.
It works, it's easy, it's not expensive Mar 11, 2010 This thermometer does exactly what I hoped it would; it tells me how done my meat is.
Pros: Small, easy to read, easy to use, easy to clean, inexpensive
Cons: Takes a few seconds to get a reading, can't leave it in the oven or grill
For the price, this is a very good product. 5 stars.
Good Quality, fast read Feb 19, 2010 Well constructed gives quick readings. I bought this one as a gift, I have had one for over a year with no problems.
underwhelming if not annoying Feb 18, 2010 i had high-hopes for this digital thermometer and it seems tough going to get a decent product in the same price range for some reason or another.
in this case the 'final reading' just takes too long to stabilize and is frustrating. my guess is that a decent analog thermometer would at least take away the agony of watching the digital readout walk through a few dozens updates, from 96 to 98 ... to 110 to 112 .. to 140 to 145 ... to 161, 162, 163, 164, 165, ... 166 ........ 167... 166 ... 166 ... 165... etc.
if i had any idea it would perform like this i would not have purchased it, though will only use it seldom and cannot afford a better quality digital instrument. in particular 'instant read' cooking thermometers - why oh why is it so hard to figure out? the reliable cooking thermometer remains an enigma for me as a result. no better options were found available, yet this is on the verge of insufficient.
rating it with 3 stars would be generous as to me this equates to 'average' and i'd say this is below that in terms of its particular effectiveness at what it is made and designed to do firstly: get a temperature reading. it is all too ambiguous. and it simply must be possible to achieve a quicker stable temperature reading by using if designing a more advanced chip to make it possible. then it would be great. until then it is not. it is not even good. it is just okay. not even that. less than okay. yet it is all there is. etc. etc. etc. until it is upgraded. etc.
